On October 31, 2023, Ambassador Guo Min visited Sumgayit and held talks with the Head of the Executive Power of Sumgayit Mr. Zakir Farajov, exchanging views on China-Azerbaijan relations, economic and trade cooperation, and friendship city contacts.

Ambassador Guo Min said that under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Ilham Aliyev, China-Azerbaijan political mutual trust has been deepened, local practical cooperation has been fruitful, and exchanges between the two countries are getting closer and closer, and the relations between the two countries are at the highest level in history. As an important industrial city along the "Belt and Road" route and the third largest city in Azerbaijan, Sumgayit has long maintained friendly exchanges with Xi'an City of Shaanxi Province, Jiangjin District of Chongqing Municipality, and Mianyang City of Sichuan Province, which has set a model for regional cooperation between the two countries. China is willing to deepen cooperation with Sumgayit, actively participate in the construction of Sumgayit Chemical  Industrial Park, and make practical contributions to China-Azerbaijan practical cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade and energy.

Zakir Farajov agreed with Ambassador Guo Min's high marks  on bilateral relations and expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in Azerbaijan for actively promoting practical cooperation in various fields between the two countries. Sumgayit is willing to continue deepening the exchanges and cooperation with friendship cities of China, actively participate in the construction of "Belt and Road" and contribute to the development of relations between the two countries. More Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest and make business in Sumgayit, and the Azerbaijani side will provide favorable conditions and all-round guarantees.

After the meeting, Ambassador Guo Min and Head of the Executive Power of Sumgayit Mr. Zakir Farajov signed a certificate of handover of office equipment donated by the Embassy to Sumgayit.
